Spread the Word
Talking to others is the best way to spread the word about anti-racism work. One thing I worked on this summer was collecting meaningful quotes from qualified individuals I talked to and developing them into slides that I posted on Instagram. Below are the slides are the caption.
Racism is embedded in the structure of our society. It is a part of all our everyday lives, and whether you believe it or not, we are a part of a system that runs on racism. Right now, there are hundreds of Black Minneapolis residents lining up weekly in the middle of a pandemic for basic needs, but we can work to change that. Remember, ongoing relationships and actual action are important for making structural change, not solely self-education.

However, here’s a few more things I’ve learned:
-Be aware of what the other side is saying no matter how painful it might be to hear it. Get another perspective by looking at a different news source or another side of social media. Practice empathy! :-)
-To actually change someone’s behavior, there has to be daily micro-learnings, not just a training session.
-If we can redesign everything for a pandemic, surely we can redesign programs to promote racial equity.
-Change happens slowly partly because the younger generation doesn’t change the older (vote and have conversations with people of all ages!)
