(Not) About Me
This is not about me.
I am sophomore at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, living in Eagan, Minnesota. When George Floyd was murdered in May 2020, systemic problems were exposed to those who had an "out of sight, out of mind" attitude, Minneapolis was looted and burned, and I began my journey as an ally. Though I have tried my best to be an advocate for change, as a white woman, I needed to take a step back to make sure I was educated. Through the Summer Career Accelerator program at the UNL College of Business, I focused on racial justice, educating both myself, others, and volunteering in the Minneapolis community. However, this is not my story or my journey, this is about Black people and the struggles they face every day. This website is about what happened this summer and how it sparked learning, growth, and change, not the role that I had in any of these situations. As civil rights activist Angela Davis once said, "In a racist society, it is not enough to be non-racist, we must be anti-racist." Below is a link to the University of Nebraska - Lincoln's recommended racial equity resources.
